CYLINDERS
I have to retest my old SCUBA Aralù, is there any
problem?
The Aralù self contained breathing apparatus (SCUBA) were
produced by Technisub until 1991 using aluminium alloy (AA6351)
cylinders manufactured by Luxfer Gas Cylinders, a British
company. It has been discovered that, after years of intensive
use in certain conditions, a limited number of these cylinders
may exhibit a metallurgical phenomenon known as “sustained-load
cracking” in neck and shoulder area of the cylinder. Sustained-load
cracks grow extremely slowly, but, if undetected, they could
eventually cause a cylinder to leak or, on rare occasions,
to rupture. However, these cracks are usually detected before
they become a problem during normal visual inspections by
a qualified inspector. It is important to note that, to date,
there have been no ruptures of any of these cylinders in Italy.
Nonetheless, TECHNISUB and LUXFER invites all owners of Aralù
cylinders, made from AA6351 alloy, in Italy, to send them
to LUXFER Italian Service for a free inspection. We will test
the cylinders with a special device, designed in the USA and
based on eddy-current phenomenon, that can detect microscopic
sustained-load cracks long before there is any danger of a
leak or rupture. If you wish to take advantage of this free
inspection, please send your cylinder(s) to:

Luxfer Gas Cylinders will bear the cost of the first test,
while the customer will pay for transportation and any other
desired services, such as dismantling and refitting of valves,
two-yearly retest (if appropriate) and refurbishment. If your
cylinder passes free test, it will be returned to you for
continued use. If your cylinder fails the test, it will be
destroyed and we will offer to replace it with a new cylinder
at a special price. This eddy-current test and visual inspection
should be repeated every two years, preferably at the same
time as the two-yearly retesting of cylinders required by
the Italian regulations. All subsequent eddy-current tests
and other required services (including retest) payments will
be the Customer’s responsibility. If the cylinder fails the
test, it will be destroyed and the offer to replace it with
a new cylinder at a special price will be upholded.
MASKS
With the SPHERA, can I use traditional methods to avoid inside
fogging up?
No, different systems from the special anti-fog liquid, code
542.210, would cause irreversible damage to the inside of
the lens.
Are there any masks for people who wear glasses?
Yes, our LOOK mask can be easily transformed into optical
masks. In fact, optical prescription lenses can replace the
original lens in a few minutes. The optical lenses available
are: negative symmetrical lenses (from -1.00 to -10.00 with
steps of 0.50); positive lenses (from +1.50 to +3.00 with
steps of 0.50).
My face is quite small, are there masks that are
suitable for me?
In our range, the Ventura Midi mask is designed for the
small faces of women and boys and girls.
SNORKELS
The mouthpiece I use makes my jaw stiff; are there any solutions
to this?
There are snorkels, such as our Air and Flexus, which come
with an orthodontic mouthpiece that has been specifically
studied to reduce strain on the jaw or with the Midi mouthpiece
that is suitable for smaller dental arches.
Why do they have that cap?
To reduce the possibility of water entering during snorkeling
as much as possible and to act as a visual marker thanks to
its unusually intense red color.
TORCHES
I have a VEGA 2; can it be made rechargeable?
It's not a good idea. Altering a product almost always means
altering the original performance set by the manufacturer.
Moreover, the change leads to the Guarantee lapsing with important
consequences not only on the technical level, but also from
the civil liability perspective.
Can VEGA 100 be used as a light for videosub filming?
Of course. We have the Flou Vega 100 Video Kit, code 562.740,
which provides a very white, mellow and evenly distributed
light beam. I have a rechargeable torch.
Do I have to recharge it continuously?
As indicated in the instruction booklet, it is a good idea
during long periods of non-use to let it run down and then
recharge the bulb completely once a month.
Are your rechargeable batteries subject to the memory
effect?
No. On the rechargeable torches we sell, we use batteries
that do not have this effect, used with the Technisub chargers
that come with them.
Why can't I find the bulbs for your torches in electrical
stores?
We use bulbs manufactured on Technisub specifications and
available exclusively through authorized Technisub dealers.
Note: the modification or use of unoriginal parts alters the
original performance set and leads to the lapse of all guarantees.
KNIVES
Do BC knives exist?
hanks to the standard accessories. It is important to note
that all the BC knives in our range come with a special holster
to place and attach the MINI ZAK. It can also be carried on
the belt using two loops inserted in the sheath.
Does the knife need maintenance?
Yes, it must be carefully rinsed with fresh water after
diving, then left to dry outside the sheath. Every now and
then the surface area should be protectively coated with a
thin layer of silicone grease, code 549.150.
